Busy Doing Nothing

Busy doing Nothing

I believe in honesty and communication. That is why I am writing this blog. Not only to be honest with my clients, but to be honest with myself. I have made my business my career for the last year and my job for the last 8 1/2 years. My job has transformed not only my life but the way I approach it. My dreams, hopes and ambitions have evolved as I have evolved into a personal trainer business owner. But they could have grown much more than they have.

Business has been amazing thus far, and I am grateful for all who have come into my life because of this path I have taken. But let’s be honest, no one is perfect, all I can do is be the perfect ME. I strive to better myself each day, week, month and year. Somedays I don’t get out of bed, and some days I lay on the couch all day, but then are days like today, when I feel that I can conquer the world, how it happens, I have no idea, but I put one foot in front of the other and tackle a task that I have been putting off. Putting off not because I’m scared that I will fail, but scared of what will happen next.

I easily get distracted and have to stop myself from picking up the phone to check my email or start another task. Being distracted makes me feel busy, makes me lose my train of thought which makes me forget what I was doing, thinking or planning. It is what I call busy doing nothing. Running around in circles putting my hand in different pots, pretending that I’m busy, but in reality, I’m not getting anything COMPLETED!

We live in a fast-paced, non-stop hamster wheel. Going nowhere fast, but we think we are because we are moving. Today I created my lists of “duties” that I must get done on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. I’ve typed up the bare minimum tasks that I MUST do and printed copies for the week. The plan is to write down additional tasks that I would like to get done that day. Every time I have completed something I will check it off. A sense of accomplishment. These tasks are the tasks I’ve created to get to my goal as a business owner.

You probably are thinking what does this have to do with me? Everything. Evaluate your life and see if you are running on the hamster wheel of life or actually getting work done. Look not only in your career, but in your physical, financial, relationships and any other aspect of your life. Are you moving in the right direction? Or are you standing still waiting for your goals to come to you?
