I love this exercise. Sometimes it is difficult to see who we are because we are raised in a society that there can always be better. We tend to always want more and forget that sometimes we are exactly where we should be. I hope you take a moment to reflect who you once were, where you are now… AND THEN… look at where you want to be!
Which Wolf Will You Feed?
By Kelli Corasanti, TD3 Platinum Level Mastermind Coach
“An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life.
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
“Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
Today, I present you with a challenge. When you finish reading this article, I want you to go and look at your REFLECTION in the mirror.
Although most of us look in a mirror every day, I am not sure we always SEE what’s there. Today I want you to really LOOK and then NOTICE what you experience. Do you begin by making judgments about your features? Are you feeling badly about your nose or critical of the dark circles under your eyes? Does self-pity arise as you notice wrinkles that have crept into the surface of your skin?
What you’re hearing as you make these judgments is the voice inside your head that says “you’re not ______ enough.” You can fill in the blank with any word that you have in mind.
But today, I challenge you to GO DEEPER. Keep looking! In fact, stay facing that mirror until you see something beyond your face – until you can see YOUR SELF – the person who is behind your eyes. Keep looking in that mirror until you can see YOU!
Recognizing the inner light that is YOU can take some time, but when you find it, I want you to begin to acknowledge the kindness and love that emanates outward. I want you to feel the benevolence and compassion that you have. I want you to acknowledge the many ways you have reached out and IMPACTED the world. I want you to ‘feed the wolf’ that allows you to feel JOY!
As the year ends, there are many reasons to step back and assess what you have accomplished, but it is also important to take time to REFLECT on WHO YOU ARE right now.
*Are you the person you WANT to be?
*Is that person in the mirror someone you LIKE or even LOVE?
*Is the person in the mirror ALIGNED with the purpose you have stated for yourself?
*Are you PROUD of the person you see?
I sincerely hope the answer to those questions is a resounding YES!!
But if it isn’t – then it’s time for you to GO DEEP and figure out WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE! The truth is that we are fully capable of making changes within ourselves! We can choose to act differently, think differently and even speak differently. We just have to commit to making those changes. When we do, we continue to grow.
The year ahead is a blank slate waiting to be filled, and it all begins with YOU! In order to BE YOUR BEST, you need to CHOOSE which ‘wolf’ you are going to feed.
Now before you step away from the mirror, I want you to take one deeper look at yourself. See your inner light reflected in that image. Then turn around and share that light with everyone around you. When you continue to shine, you will make 2014 your BEST YEAR YET!
